Join a group of clinicians, architects, and a former healthcare chaplain who share a deep passion for shaping better healthcare places.
This session will be a hands‑on, creative, and lively workshop where everyone’s experience and opinions matter. Together, we’ll uncover opportunities for design interventions in healthcare.
Through hands‑on, playful, and reflective activities, we’ll gather the wisdom already alive in the room. This workshop is an invitation to contribute to a shared legacy — a collective message for the future of health and design in the North.
Our ‘deep dive’ is for anyone who believes that the places we build can change the way we heal. Whether you’re a clinician, designer, architect, student, or decision‑maker, you are welcome. We’re gathering people who care about wellbeing in Northern Norway and want to imagine new possibilities together.
This is a collaborate workshop between UK-based group www.madeforhealth.co.uk and local studio www.videre.as.

Your hosts
Torbjørn Askevold
Hospital chaplain and former department head at UNN – University Hospital of Northern Norway, Torbjørn Askevold now runs his own company, Videre AS, offering guidance, process support, and teaching. He focuses on interpersonal processes, fostering reflection, and facilitating meaningful collaboration with individuals and organizations. Torbjørn brings his experience to help teams and projects navigate complex challenges and strengthen their impact.
Dr Alyson Walker
«The sleepy doctor» – Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. Now working on a PHD in design.
Aly is a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, Scotland’s largest children’s hospital. She is passionate about improving the experience that children, families and staff have in hospital and uses design approaches to explore and achieve this. Her design journey began many years ago when she was introduced to design theory during her time as a Scottish Quality and Safety Fellow. She has since spearheaded a £1.2 million transformation of her children’s operating theatres to make them more child-friendly, welcoming and comforting. She regards Norway as her spiritual home.

Emma Stockton
Emma is a paediatric anaesthetist at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. She believes that the built environment should be used as a strategic tool in healthcare and that only with excellent clinical involvement in design can this be realised.
Jennifer Whinnett
Architect and healthcare planner
She has worked for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and Murphy Philipps Architects. She has also worked at London Southbank University, teaching a Masters in Planning Buildings for Health and delivering research studies for health organisations. She is passionate about optimising the way we brief, design and evaluate our buildings to provide the best possible healthcare environments for all who use them.
Clare Simcock
Lead Radiographer at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
She has more than 25 years of clinical paediatric imaging experience with a passion for quality improvement, putting patients at the heart of the matter. She is a firm believer that clinicians should feel empowered to use their clinical experience to inform the design process in order to achieve successful design through meaningful collaboration.

DEEP DIVE sessions are designed to delve into a topic, after the conference which might be experienced as a little more general.
